AIM AND MISSION
To provide a local community radio station to Thornbury and the surrounding area. The station gives a voice to the community.
STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
Thornbury Radio is continuing the process of reaching out to the communities of Thornbury and the surrounding area and embracing the process of building identity and pride expressed through participation in the station.
This is achieved through:
- The promotion of diverse local voluntary organisations
- The provision of local information and news
- Information and education on health issues
- Highlight education, training, and employment opportunities for young people
- Encourage self-help in addition to community assistance to the less fortunate members of our area
- Showcase local talent in their artistic and cultural endeavours
- Promote participation in sports and other keep-fit activities
- Working with local organisations to encourage involvement in the station
- Provide opportunities to reduce social isolation and make new friends
- Provide uplifting and cheerful programmes to lift the spirits of listeners
- The provision of cost-effective advertising to local businesses
CASE STUDIES
Our Community Spotlight feature enables local community groups and charities to have a free advert about their group regularly on air. Here is an example made for Age UK South Gloucestershire: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/prh0NSKcZE8
Working with local drama groups – their talent was showcased on air during the pandemic when meeting together as a group to perform was not possible. Here is an example of an original play written and performed by Octopus Drama Group in Thornbury. It was broadcast on air and is available via a listen again feature on Thornbury Radio’s website: https://www.thornbury.radio/on-air/listen-again/
